The Kyiv national police have reported that knives have been seized from several citizens who were heading to the events marking the Day of the Christening of Rus held in central Kyiv, saying they have talked to people who could have provoked conflicts.

“Law enforcement officials found small knives and other sharp objects on several citizens who were going through metal detectors. The law enforcement officers seized those objects to observe security requirements and their owners were allowed to go to the place where the religious procession is being held,” the Kyiv national police said in its report.

According to the national police, men who had posters with prevocational content have been taken to the police station in Shevchenko district. “The police asked them to give explanations of their actions, identified them and talked to them. After that, they were released,” the report said.

According to the police, religious events have now begun on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery.

“No major violations associated with the religious procession have been registered. No one was detained for any violations of law,” the Kyiv national police said.
