Poland, as the host country of the NATO summit at the presidential level, expects making key decisions to strengthen deterrence and defense policy in Eastern Europe, Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Henryk Litwin has said.

“We expect to improve security in Poland and the entire Central European region by the presence of NATO forces in the region,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv.

According to the diplomat, officials in Warsaw hope the summit will demonstrate that security of all allies, partners and members is a priority.

“In addition, we would like to see the strengthening of transatlantic relations as one of the results of the summit, i.e. the qualitative presence of U.S. forces in Europe, including eastern and central European regions,” he said.

Litwin underlined the expectations the summit will confirm the joint decision to increase defense spending in NATO countries “in relation to the current situation in our part of Europe.”
