You're reading: NBU improves forecast for grain harvest in 2016 by 5.2 percent

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has improved the forecast for grain harvest in the current year by 5.2 percent, central bank head Valeriya Gontareva has said at a press conference in Kyiv.

“In our April macroeconomic forecast we expected the grain harvest to reach 58 million tonnes. Currently the forecasts for this figure by respondents polled by the National Bank have increased to 61 million tonnes,” she said.

In addition, the forecasts for the harvest of sunflower, sugar beets and other crops have been revised upward.

As reported, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) expects grain harvest in Ukraine in the 2016/2017 marketing year to reach 58.925 million tonnes, exports at 31.83 million tonnes.
