Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) on July 26 detained former acting chairman of the board of PJSC State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine Valeriy Tomilenko along with the chairman of the board of PJSC Rokytne grain enterprise.

The detainees are suspected of creating a corrupt scheme, which caused the embezzlement of about Hr 50 million in state funds, the NABU’s press service said on July 26.

NABU detectives say that the two signed a contract on the supply of 16,600 tonnes of third-grade maize to the corporation on the terms of full prepayment.

“Both parties knew that the said commodity was de facto not available, therefore the grain enterprise was not going to fulfill the contract. But the State Food and Grain Corporation transferred about Hr 50 million in budget funds to the enterprise’s account for the commodity, which has not been supplied,” the NABU said.

An investigation is under way with the involvement of the detainees. Detectives are working to prepare documents for (a court hearing on) a measure of restraint in the form of pre-trial detention.

Tomilenko worked as acting chairman of the board from December 2014 to April 2015.
