You're reading: Ministry says Hr 30 million transferred to coalmines for repayment of delayed wages

Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has announced it transferred Hr 30 million to coalmines on August 9 for repayment of delayed wages to coalminers with the total amount of the debt estimated at Hr 399.5 million (with all extra fees included).

“As of today, we’ve paid 83.8 percent of wages to state-run coalmines’ personnel,” the ministry said.

The lack of working capital, insufficient financing from the budget for partial reimbursement of coal production costs are the causes behind the accumulation of the debt, the ministry said.

Debts to the workers of state-run SelydivVuhillia whose employee resorted to self-immolation at the ministry’s premises on August 9 in protest of the fact that his wages haven’t been paid was Hr 42.1 million (without extra fees). The ministry claims that the last time the company received Hr 27.3 million on August 3.

The amount of wages calculated for state-run coalmines’ personnel in the first half of 2016 was Hr 2.46 billion, of which, Hr 2.06 billion has been paid, the ministry said. It included Hr 0.25 billion in budget funds and Hr 1.81 billion in funds from coal sales.

Delayed wages at state-run coalmines as of today are estimated at Hr 399.5 million with all extra fees included. Of the sum, Hr 256.2 million is wages of coalminers. Delayed wages in June alone amounted to Hr 201.3 million.
