MOSCOW - The number of people killed in a fire at a warehouse in northeastern Moscow has reached 17, a source with the city medical community told Interfax.

“Sixteen people were found at the scene, and one more woman died at the Sklifosovsky Emergency Medicine Research Institute,” the source said.

One more victim is being treated at this institute, and two other casualties have been taken to the 36th City Hospital, he said.

All casualties are citizens of CIS countries who were staying at the warehouse illegally, the source said.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement source told Interfax various causes of the incident were being analyzed, including possible arson.

“However, experts are inclined to believe that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit or careless handling of fire,” he said.
