You're reading: Kyiv confirms death of two sailors on board Ukrainian vessel in port near Istanbul

The Consular Service Department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has confirmed the discovery of the bodies of two Ukrainian sailors on board the vessel at the port of Tuzla near Istanbul, the cause of their death is being established.

“According to the Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul, at 08:00 today, the bodies of the two sailors, citizens of Ukraine, were found on board Amapola (flying the flag of Malta), which was being repaired in the port of Tuzla near Istanbul. The cause of their death is being investigated,” the consular department reported on Facebook page on June 8.

The consular office in Istanbul is monitoring the situation.

Earlier media reports said that the bodies of two Ukrainian sailors were found on board a vessel flying the flag of Malta, which was moored at a shipyard in Istanbul’s Tuzla. They were found dead and half-naked in the bathroom on board the ship which was undergoing repairs.
