Former deputy chief editor of the Kyiv Post Kateryna Gorchinskaya has been appointed as an executive director of Hromadske. tv, the TV channel said in a statement on its website.

The supervisory board of the channel passed this decision on Jan. 11.

“This appointment should complete the transition of Hromadske.tv from ‘Maidan broadcaster’ into ‘the broadcaster for the new Ukrainian society ‘ and will improve prospects for the future cooperation with the public broadcaster, which should appear in 2016 as a result of reorganization of the state-run radio and television,” member of the supervisory board of Hromadske. tv Yevhen Hlibovytsky said.

A tender for the position of the executive director was announced in October, 2015. Over 200 candidates sent their applications.

Apart from work at the Kyiv Post Gorchinskaya was a head of the investigation unit of Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe and worked as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal in Ukraine.

Hromadske.tv is the biggest crowdfunded news-platform in Eastern and Central Europe. It was launched during first days of the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine and is run by journalists themselves without ties to the state or private sector.
