You're reading: Suspected organizer of Nemtsov’s murder wanted by Interpol

Interpol has put Ruslan Mukhudinov, the suspected organizer of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov's murder, on its wanted list.

Information on Mukhudinov appeared on Interpol’s site on May 29. Russia filed a wanted notice for the 29-year-old native of Chechnya last November.

Mukhudinov used to be a fighter at Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s Sever battalion and the driver of Ruslan Geremeyev, a company commander at the battalion.

Russian investigators have been trying to question Mukhudinov and Geremeyev, who were hiding in Chechnya, but these efforts were reportedly blocked by Chechen authorities.

In April 2015 Kadyrov permitted Chechen law enforcement agencies to fire at federal troops if their actions were not authorized by the Chechen government.

Critics of Russian authorities have dismissed the idea that a driver could be the organizer of the murder and put the blame directly on Kadyrov, who denies the accusations.

Five suspected perpetrators of the murder are currently under arrest. These include Zaur Dadayev, a top commander of the Sever battalion.

Nemstov was killed on Feb. 28, 2015 a stone’s throw from the Kremlin. He used to be a deputy prime minister of Russia and leader of the Union of Right-Wing Forces, a center-right party.
