ATHENS - All people being held by the Ukrainian authorities and those being held in Donbas should be freed, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“I personally believe this work must be finished, and all people being held on the Ukrainian side and on the side of Donbas must be freed,” Putin said at a press conference following negotiations with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The Russian leader acknowledged that this process would not be easy, as it involves mutual accusations as to who is being held on what grounds.

Putin said Ukrainian presidential envoy Viktor Medvedchuk, who earlier brokered the liberation of Ukrainian military pilot Nadia Savchenko and her return home, is currently acting as a mediator in returning the rest of the individuals held in Donbas and those held by Ukrainian authorities.
